For leveling as far as gear goes dont worry about it, its all about your range weapon for the moment. Keep that fairly up to date and you cant go wrong.

As far as pets go now, sinse the 3.0 patch again its up to you. All pets have there own unique abilites so check here for that they all have.

They all fall under 3 main catigories being Cunning, tenacity and ferocity. Cunning is a semi dps/utility tree. Ferocity is straight forward dps tree. And tenacity is you tank tree. Again while leveling there is no right or wrong so dont worry have a go at trying out different things for now.

Once you hit STV you can always give AOE grinding ago similar to a mage. Grab a Gorilla with thunder stomp ride around and grab a pack of mobs, when you have enough dismount and if your pet is set to defensive and you have 2 or more mobs he will pick them all up with thunder stomp. Slam a Misdirect on the pet and chain volly till they die basically. Specc accordingly, and if you suffer from mana issues well use your aspect if needed. Other wise gear more int if you can. Best ive done was 25 Belf mobs around BT so even if its not great for leveling. It certainly rocks for grinding later on Very Happy.

Main hunter abilities you have and will be judged on are you abilitiy to chain trap. Learn it, its a must. Will make you either a good hunter or a huntard... DO NOT BE A HUNTARD... Here is a vid on how its done.

Another handy ability is shooting on the run. Also known as straf shooting or the jump shot. (Used in Mount hyjal to kite mobs to the npc's to bring in the pack to help or on the trash pack on the kael fight in TK are 2 situations this is used.) Both tecniques are fine and give the same result. (I prefer the jump shot myself.)

As far as shot rotations are atm, you dont clip your shots anymore with steady shot so you can just use when off the CD. Hit up the target dummies and go though your rotations and see what you can come up with for sustained dps. A mod like recount helps as it shows your dps in a number of ways.
